Iran’s foreign ministry spokesperson, Esmaeil Baqaei, emphasized the potential repercussions of South Korea’s engagement, stating that such actions would be viewed as direct support for U.S. aggression. He asserted that the implications of military deployment in the Persian Gulf could be severe, urging South Korea to resist what he described as U.S. pressure.
South Korea has indicated that any decision regarding its military contribution would depend on ensuring its own military readiness is not compromised. However, no formal decision has been made yet. Tensions in the Strait of Hormuz have escalated since the start of the conflict between Iran and the United States, which commenced on February 28, leading to significant disruptions in maritime traffic and energy markets.
