Japanese Royals Set to Honor Norway's Late King at Oslo Funeral

Crown Prince Akishino and Crown Princess Kiko of Japan are scheduled to travel to Norway for a three-day visit starting Tuesday to participate in the funeral of the late King Harald V. This decision was finalized during a Cabinet meeting held by the Japanese government on Friday.

The funeral service will take place on Wednesday at Oslo Cathedral, marking a significant moment for both royal families. The Japanese Imperial Household Agency revealed that the Norwegian royal family had previously informed Emperor Naruhito about the funeral arrangements.

In keeping with the long-standing tradition of the Japanese Imperial Family, Emperor Naruhito will not attend the funeral himself. He had previously attended the funeral of King Olav V, Harald V's father, back in 1991. As a result, the emperor chose to delegate the responsibility to Crown Prince Akishino and Crown Princess Kiko, who will depart from Tokyo’s Haneda Airport on a government flight Tuesday morning and return to Japan on Thursday afternoon.
