Kenan Thompson Nearly Gave Up Acting Over Hockey Training

Kenan Thompson, renowned for his comedic flair, revealed a surprising near-exit from acting during a recent episode of Amy Poehler's Good Hang podcast. The cause? The daunting challenge of mastering hockey for his role in the 1994 film D2: The Mighty Ducks.

Thompson, who played Russ Tyler, shared that he listed roller skating on his resume but had never anticipated the rigorous demands of hockey. On his 15th birthday, after his first day of hockey camp, he was ready to throw in the towel. “I don’t want to be an actor… if this is what it’s about,” he admitted.

Fortunately, his mother encouraged him to persist, and after eight weeks of training, Thompson ultimately found his stride on the ice. Poehler praised his impressive skating abilities, recalling his dazzling performance at Rockefeller Center, where he showcased a flurry of impressive tricks.
