Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Calls for Action Against Punjab CM Over Controversial Remarks

PESHAWAR: In a dramatic session on Friday, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly took a firm stand against Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, passing a resolution that seeks action under Article 6 of the Constitution. This decision follows her recent comments suggesting that Punjab faces greater security threats from neighboring provinces than from its international borders.

The resolution, introduced by Law Minister Aftab Alam Afridi, was passed amidst concerns that such statements could damage national unity and incite division among the provinces. During the session, Speaker Babar Saleem Swati emphasized the need for harmony, stating that the fight against terrorism is a collective struggle.

Housing Minister Amjad Ali condemned the comments, labeling them as shameful and reflective of arrogance. He insisted that the Punjab CM's remarks undermine the state’s narrative, which has long pointed to India as a source of terrorism. Ali demanded an apology from Nawaz, arguing that her statements were not only directed at the PTI but insulted the entire province.
