Punjab's Security Challenges: CM Maryam Highlights Internal Threats Over External Ones

Punjab's Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has raised alarm over the security situation in the province, asserting that the real threats stem from neighboring provinces rather than international borders. Speaking at an AI technology event in Lahore, she emphasized that terrorism infiltrates Punjab through its provincial boundaries.

Maryam noted that the threats faced by Punjab are primarily sourced from organized crime and religious intolerance. She cautioned that certain groups, which she subtly referred to as political entities masquerading under the guise of religion, contribute to spreading discord within the region. However, she proudly stated that religious events are now being conducted peacefully, a stark contrast to the religious polarization witnessed in previous years.

Since taking office in 2024, Maryam has highlighted significant advancements in law enforcement and technology, making Punjab the most AI-enabled province in the nation. She described the state of affairs upon her arrival, where terrorists operated with superior technology, including night-vision equipment. With substantial investments in security measures, she confirmed that the loss of life due to attacks has drastically decreased, thanks to the implementation of fortified systems like bulletproof cameras and the use of drones at security checkpoints.

Addressing the issue of corruption, the chief minister revealed her intent to tackle corrupt practices within the nation, stressing that corruption has become ingrained in the societal fabric. She urged immediate action against corrupt individuals, emphasizing that trust in the state is critical for national progress.
