Motif Design Launches Browser-Based Platform for Collaborative Architectural Modeling

By Editor • September 8, 2026 • 1 min read

In a bold move to revolutionize architectural design, Motif Design has introduced a browser-based platform aimed at simplifying the collaborative creation of architectural models. The startup, led by co-founder and CEO Amar Hanspal, seeks to make architectural software more accessible and user-friendly, reminiscent of Figma's impact on design tools.

Transforming Architectural Collaboration

Motif Design allows architects and construction teams to work on building models in real-time, eliminating the cumbersome processes of traditional software that often require individual file check-outs and merges. "By making it browser-based, we are making it very accessible," Hanspal noted, highlighting the barriers that existing tools create, particularly for those who do not work on PCs.

Innovative Features and AI Integration

Launched alongside Motif Review, a collaborative workspace for feedback and visualization, Motif Design enables users to create complex models directly within a web browser. This development is significant, as handling vast amounts of architectural data in a browser was previously limited by technology. "Only recently could a browser run the math fast enough for someone to work in the model rather than just look at it," Hanspal explained.

A New Era for Architectural Tools

With a rich background in the architecture and engineering sectors, Hanspal is well-versed in the challenges of existing systems. His experience at Autodesk, where he contributed to the evolution of building information modeling (BIM), informs Motif's mission to offer a streamlined solution that meets modern demands. "Their practices evolved faster than their tools," he remarked, emphasizing the urgency for innovation.
