In a significant diplomatic engagement, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif assured Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman of Pakistan's commitment to easing regional tensions during a phone conversation on Sunday. This comes in the wake of recent Houthi assaults on Saudi oil infrastructure, which injured dozens and escalated concerns over regional stability.
Prime Minister Sharif condemned the Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia's civilian and economic assets, emphasizing their potential threat to regional peace and the global economy. He expressed alarm over the impact of these actions, highlighting that they could further disrupt energy supplies worldwide. The PM, accompanied by senior military and government officials, reiterated Pakistan's dedication to fostering peace in the region.
The discussion also touched on a recent defence pact between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkiye aimed at collective security and deterrence. While Defence Minister Khawaja Asif mentioned the pact could be activated in response to escalations in Yemen, officials have clarified that Pakistan is not contemplating military action against the Houthis at this stage. Both leaders agreed to maintain close communication and expressed a desire to meet soon to discuss further collaboration.
