Z.ai Plans Major Fundraising Initiative Amid Stock Decline

By Editor • September 13, 2026 • 1 min read

Chinese AI developer Z.ai, which operates under the name Zhipu AI, is embarking on an ambitious fundraising campaign aimed at securing up to US$5 billion following a recent share sale.

In a filing made on Sunday, the Hong Kong-listed firm revealed its intention to raise approximately HK$15.7 billion (around US$2 billion) by issuing around 21.97 million new H shares, priced at HK$714 each. This effort is coupled with a proposed convertible bond sale worth 20.14 billion yuan (about US$3 billion).

Despite these plans, Z.ai's stock has faced significant volatility, having closed at HK$793 on Friday. This represents a dramatic 73 percent drop from its peak earlier in the trading period, highlighting the challenges the company faces as it seeks to enhance its capital base in a competitive market.
