Peter Berg Teams Up with Kyle Chandler for Netflix's NFL Gameday Openers

In an exciting collaboration, Netflix has enlisted director Peter Berg to helm the opening segments for its NFL gameday livestreams this season, with the first installment featuring the iconic Kyle Chandler.

Launching on September 10, the premiere opener titled "For the Love of Football" will air during the highly anticipated matchup between the Los Angeles Rams and the San Francisco 49ers, starting at 3:30 p.m. PT from Melbourne, Australia. This two-minute introduction intersperses scenes of youth football with professional NFL action, reminiscent of Berg's earlier work in the beloved film and series, "Friday Night Lights."

Chandler, who famously portrayed Coach Eric Taylor in the "Friday Night Lights" series, lends his voice to the opener, delivering motivational lines that evoke the spirit of the show. "And so it begins. Right here, right now. Today," he states, setting a determined tone. He continues with the memorable mantra, "Clear eyes, full hearts. Can't lose," reinforcing the emotional connection to the sport.

Berg’s involvement doesn’t stop with this opener; he is set to direct the pregame sequences for several key games throughout the season, including the Thanksgiving Eve clash between the Green Bay Packers and the Rams, and the Christmas Day matchups featuring the Packers against the Chicago Bears and the Bills versus the Broncos. Fans can also look forward to a special Week 18 game on January 9, 2027, with teams yet to be announced.

Beyond the NFL project, Berg has been working with Netflix on other fronts, including the upcoming film “The Mosquito Bowl,” which will hit theaters on October 30 before its Netflix release on November 25. This drama, based on Buzz Bissinger’s acclaimed novel, tells the powerful story of college football stars who enlisted in the Marines post-Pearl Harbor.
