Petrol and Diesel Prices Rise as Government Adjusts Rates

The government has announced an increase in fuel prices, raising petrol by Rs1.08 and high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs0.51 per litre. As of September 2, petrol will be priced at Rs343.87 per litre and HSD at Rs370.92 per litre.
This adjustment follows a significant decline in HSD prices from a peak of Rs520.35 in April, as well as petrol, which reached Rs458.41 in the same month. The price hikes stem from ongoing fluctuations in global oil markets, especially due to tensions between the US and Iran.
Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik noted that the government will now set fuel prices daily, a shift from the previous weekly revisions, to better align with international trends. These fuel price changes are crucial, especially for the middle and lower-middle classes, as petrol is primarily used in personal transport and diesel is essential for heavy transport and power generation.
