The Reform UK party, led by Nigel Farage, is under fire following allegations that two senior officials conspired to bypass UK electoral laws regarding foreign donations. The accusations surfaced after a Channel 4 investigation aired footage showing the officials discussing potential funding from American sources during an undercover sting operation.

On Friday, the party announced that Dan Jukes and James Orr had stepped down from their positions while an internal investigation takes place. The inquiry comes as Reform UK holds its annual conference in Birmingham, where the party's integrity is now called into question amid rising scrutiny.

Undercover Footage Unveils Controversial Discussions

The Channel 4 report revealed that Jukes and Orr were recorded meeting with reporters posing as U.S. financiers. In one instance, Jukes discussed a significant £500,000 ($675,000) donation through a supposed American donor's son, who was actually a journalist from the investigative group Verbatim. Orr, the party’s policy head, suggested that they could circumvent direct donations by having the donor fund opinion polls instead, admitting the party struggled to find British-resident supporters.

Reform UK’s Response and Broader Implications

Initially, Reform UK dismissed the allegations as a hoax, but later acknowledged the seriousness of the claims and pledged an internal probe. Farage defended the party, asserting that they have not broken any laws and labeled the actions of the undercover journalists as entrapment. Meanwhile, the UK’s Labour Party has urged police to investigate the matter, although the Metropolitan Police are only assessing the available information at this stage.

This scandal adds to a series of controversies that have plagued the party, including Farage’s previous resignation from Parliament over funding allegations tied to a convicted fraudster.
