Ripcord Launches Halloween Film Festival to Bridge Filmmaker-Fan Gap

Ripcord, an innovative platform designed to connect genre filmmakers with audiences, has unveiled its inaugural Halloween Film Festival, promising a thrilling showcase of short films. The festival, presented in collaboration with Blackmagic Design, features 50 unique entries across horror, sci-fi, thriller, and fantasy genres.

Taking place from October 19 to 29, the festival will allow fans to vote for their favorite films, with a substantial prize of $100,000 awarded to the winning entry. The remaining nine films will share an additional $100,000 based on their rankings. A live screening event will culminate at the iconic TCL Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles on October 29, where the winners will be announced. All screenings can be accessed for free at ripcord.film, and filmmakers are encouraged to submit their works via FilmFreeway.

Ripcord aims to tackle a significant challenge in independent cinema—the struggle for exceptional films to find audiences. Charlie Cleveland, the founder of Ripcord, emphasized the platform's mission to eliminate traditional distribution barriers, allowing filmmakers to directly engage with fans. “Too many great independent films never find an audience,” Cleveland stated. The festival is curated by Vanessa Meyer, alongside a team of esteemed directors, including John Hegeman and Stacy Jorgensen, all dedicated to fostering new talent in the genre film landscape.
