Serbian Film 'Until the Day Ends' Debuts at Venice Festival Amidst Turmoil

Jelena Maksimović makes history as the first female director from Serbia to present a narrative feature at the Venice Film Festival since 1966 with her debut film, Until the Day Ends.

Set against a backdrop of significant anti-government protests in Belgrade, the film follows an anarchist student, Lena, played by Lena Trifunović, who falls for Stefan, a working-class youth aligned with pro-government supporters, portrayed by Andrija Krivokapić.

The film’s world premiere will take place in the Horizons section on September 10, coinciding with Serbia’s largest wave of civil unrest in decades, triggered by a tragic incident in November 2024.

Co-written by Maksimović, Olga Dimitrijevic, and Ivan Salatic, Until the Day Ends promises a compelling narrative filled with emotional intensity and conflict. An exclusive clip from the film has been released ahead of its premiere, hinting at the tension that awaits viewers.
