SND Secures Global Rights for Bérénice Bejo's ‘Alice: Pioneer of Cinema’ Ahead of Toronto Premiere

SND, a Paris-based film and television studio under the M6 group, has acquired global sales rights for the anticipated series “Alice: Pioneer of Cinema.” Starring Oscar-nominee Bérénice Bejo as trailblazing filmmaker Alice Guy, the period drama is set to debut in Toronto’s Primetime section on September 14.

This six-part series, co-produced by HBO Max and France Télévisions, recounts the remarkable journey of Guy, who transitioned from being Gaumont's secretary to becoming the first woman to direct fiction films in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. After achieving significant success, she ultimately faced obscurity, only to be posthumously recognized with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Directors Guild of America, presented by Martin Scorsese.

“Alice: Pioneer of Cinema” features a talented cast, including Oscar Lesage and Irène Jacob, and is helmed by Virginie Verrier and Guillaume Lonergan. It will also air on various platforms, including Movistar Plus+ and Crave. SND aims to negotiate the series' distribution at the upcoming Unifrance Rendez Vous in Le Havre, running from September 7-10. Alongside “Alice,” SND will also present the nuclear thriller “R91” at the event.
