Simón Bolívar Airport Reopens with Temporary Facilities After Earthquake

After two months of closure due to devastating earthquakes, Venezuela's Simón Bolívar International Airport has reopened, albeit with temporary facilities. Located in Maiquetía, the airport resumed operations on a limited scale on Tuesday, utilizing four air-conditioned modules set up near the parking area for passenger services.

Transport Minister Francisco Garcés announced that the temporary setup is operating at 70% capacity, ensuring the maintenance of international service standards across check-in, security, and catering. Eight flights, including routes to Valera, were scheduled for the reopening day.

Security remains a top priority, with 600 personnel stationed at the airport. While airlines like Iberia, Copa, and American Airlines have resumed operations, the full reconstruction of the main terminal is still pending, with completion now expected by early 2027.
