US Strikes Target Iranian Positions Amid Rising Tensions in Gulf

The United States has intensified its military actions against Iran, launching new air strikes in the Strait of Hormuz. This escalation comes in response to recent Iranian attempts to target commercial shipping and American forces in the region.

US Central Command indicated that the strikes aimed to deter further Iranian aggression, particularly following attempts by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to disrupt maritime operations. President Donald Trump confirmed the strikes via his social media platform, asserting that they were a direct retaliation for Iran's actions, including the alleged deployment of sea mines and missile attacks on a US military base in Jordan.

As tensions flared, oil prices surged, reflecting fears of disrupted supply routes due to the ongoing conflict. Despite these military operations, both US and Iranian officials downplayed the likelihood of a full-scale war, with Trump stating that the strikes should not be seen as a return to all-out conflict. However, the situation remains precarious, with both sides threatening further actions in the event of continued hostilities.

Iranian officials have expressed defiance, warning they would block oil exports from the Gulf if targeted. This stance was echoed by Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, who stated that if the US attempted to prevent Iranian oil shipments, no oil would leave the region. Amid these escalating threats, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian emphasized that Tehran would respond promptly if the US fulfilled its commitments under a previously established Memorandum of Understanding aimed at de-escalating tensions.
