Sir Keir Starmer has announced his resignation as the Member of Parliament for Holborn and St Pancras, marking an end to his 11-year tenure. The former Prime Minister, who stepped down following the Labour Party’s disappointing local election results, expressed that it was the "right time" for him to transition towards international issues.

In a statement to the Camden New Journal, Starmer reflected on his time in office, stating, "It’s been an honour and privilege to represent the best constituency in the country… But it is now time to step aside and focus on other issues: international affairs including defence, security, trade and technology in a fast changing world." He emphasized his commitment to continue addressing violence against women and girls.

Starmer also recognized the achievements made during his time in Parliament, including efforts in affordable housing, education, and youth safety initiatives. He expressed gratitude to his constituency staff and the local party for their unwavering support, which he credited for helping him lead the Labour Party out of a period of turmoil and into a significant election victory in 2024.

As the process to find his successor begins, Starmer assured his backing for the next Labour candidate and reiterated his support for the current government.
