In a devastating escalation of violence, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that an Indian citizen was among the 12 fatalities from recent Russian attacks in Ukraine. The assaults, which took place on September 1, 2026, involved a series of drone and missile strikes across several cities, including Odesa and Kyiv, causing extensive damage to civilian infrastructure.

Zelenskyy expressed his condolences on social media, lamenting the loss of life and the impact on countless families left without power. The strikes, which began the previous evening, left dozens injured and severely affected regions such as Kherson, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, and more.

In Kyiv alone, seven individuals lost their lives due to a strike on a railway depot. A five-storey residential building in Boryspil was also damaged, prompting the evacuation of 50 residents and resulting in additional casualties.

The Ukrainian president condemned Russia's tactics, claiming that the attacks were designed to inflict maximum civilian harm. He reiterated the urgent need for enhanced air defense support for Ukraine, asserting that the scale of casualties directly correlates with the level of international assistance.
