Staggering Pesticide Poisoning Rates Among Farmers Highlighted in New Study

By Editor • September 2, 2026 • 1 min read

A recent study has unveiled a shocking reality: nearly 50% of farmers globally suffer from pesticide poisoning annually. Commissioned by the Pesticide Action Network and based on data from 2006 to 2023, the research estimates that between 402 and 433 million cases of unintentional acute pesticide poisoning occur each year among farmers and farm workers.

Furthermore, the consequences of this widespread issue are dire, with approximately 11,000 fatalities attributed to pesticide poisoning annually. Alarmingly, India is identified as the epicenter, responsible for nearly 60% of these deaths.
