Elon Musk's tunneling venture, The Boring Company, has successfully raised $3 billion in a Series D funding round, significantly boosting its valuation to $23 billion. The funding round, announced on Thursday, was spearheaded by investors from the United Arab Emirates.
This latest influx of capital will enable The Boring Company to expand its tunneling operations, with plans to excavate over 150 kilometers of tunnels within the UAE. Notable participants in this funding round included prominent firms such as Andreessen Horowitz, Sequoia Capital, Human Capital, Vy Capital, and Valor Equity Partners.
Prior to this funding achievement, reports indicated that The Boring Company was aiming to secure up to $4 billion in funding as of July. Despite its ambitious plans abroad, the company's primary work has been centered in Las Vegas, where it has developed several tunnels connecting various hotel casinos and the convention center. Additionally, The Boring Company is currently engaged in a tunneling project in Nashville, Tennessee, which aims to establish a 10-mile underground loop designed to alleviate traffic congestion.
