Two Young Boys Allegedly Involved in Armed Robbery in Darwin

In a shocking incident that unfolded in Darwin, an 11-year-old boy was arrested for allegedly conducting an armed robbery at a fast-food restaurant and a hotel, with an eight-year-old accomplice in tow. The Northern Territory Police reported that the events took place on a busy street in the city center on the morning of September 6.

According to the police, the duo, clad in balaclavas, first targeted a restaurant on Mitchell Street around 11:50 AM. Witnesses claim that one of the boys brandished a knife, demanding cash from an employee, who quickly retreated to safety. Following this, they moved to a nearby hotel on Cavenagh Street where they threatened staff members in an attempt to access the reception area.

While the older boy faces serious charges of aggravated robbery and remains in custody, the eight-year-old was taken home and placed under the care of a responsible adult due to his age, which places him below the threshold of criminal responsibility. This incident is part of a troubling trend, as police noted an increase in youth-related crimes in the Northern Territory, involving more than 20 young individuals in similar offenses over the past two weeks.
