Effective September 29, the U.S. will prohibit the importation of specific Canadian alcoholic beverages, including well-known brands such as Crown Royal and Molson beer. The ban extends to a range of spirits like whisky, bourbon, rum, vodka, vermouth, and tequila, as well as nonalcoholic beer and products like whey protein and molasses.
Expanding Tariffs and Trade Fallout
The Trump administration has also adjusted its existing tariffs, increasing them to 50% on certain Canadian products while lifting tariffs on others like rock salt and cement. Officials claim these measures are intended to better serve public interests. The trade disputes erupted after Canada responded to U.S. tariffs on various goods, including dairy products, by imposing its own tariffs, with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney describing the situation as a “war” initiated by the U.S. against Canada.
As tensions rise, some Canadian provinces have begun removing U.S. alcohol from store shelves, and there are growing calls for boycotts against American products.
