UK Braces for a Brief Resurgence of Summer Heat

The UK is set to experience a fleeting return of summer warmth this Sunday, with temperatures expected to soar to 28°C in parts of the southeast. This surge in heat comes as a southerly wind ushers in hot and humid air from the continent, promising a brief respite from the cooler weather.
Regions in southeast England are likely to see temperatures peak at around 27 or 28°C, while much of England and Wales can anticipate mid-20s temperatures. Areas in southwest England and eastern Wales might reach highs of 25°C, with the North of England experiencing more moderate conditions in the low 20s. Northern Ireland and Scotland are expected to see afternoon highs around 21 or 22°C, as cloud and rain gradually clear.
This spike in heat follows the Met Office's announcement that the UK has experienced its hottest summer on record since records began nearly 150 years ago. With an average temperature of 16.5°C recorded during June, July, and August, this summer has surpassed the previous high of 16.1°C set last year. Notably, five heatwaves between May and August have led to drought conditions across the country, igniting wildfires and causing travel disruptions.
