UN Set to Vote on Resolution to Redefine Africa's Representation on World Maps

The United Nations General Assembly is poised to cast a significant vote on a resolution aimed at rectifying the misrepresentation of Africa’s size on world maps. This initiative, sponsored by Togo, seeks to phase out the traditional Mercator map, which has long depicted the continent as being comparable in size to Greenland.
Robert Dussey, Togo's Minister of Foreign Affairs, announced that the proposal has garnered support not only from Togo but also from all 54 member states of the African Union. This collective backing underscores the importance of accurately depicting Africa's true geographical scale on global maps.
The vote is expected to take place on Friday, marking a critical step towards acknowledging and correcting the historical inaccuracies that have shaped perceptions of the continent.
