US Diplomats Head to Ukraine Following Moscow Talks with Putin

By Editor • September 6, 2026 • 1 min read

In a significant diplomatic move, two US envoys are en route to Ukraine after engaging in discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are expected to arrive in Kyiv on Sunday, aiming for "equally productive meetings" to further the dialogue on ending the ongoing war, as confirmed by US officials.

Their discussions with Putin, which lasted three hours and were held in private, revolved around potential next steps in the conflict resolution process. Although specifics remain under wraps, an announcement is anticipated in the near future as both sides seek to advance their negotiations. This marks the first visit to Ukraine's capital by top negotiators from President Donald Trump’s administration.

During the Moscow talks, which were characterized as "constructive" by Putin's advisor Yuri Ushakov, the conversation also touched on economic issues and significant joint projects between Russia and the United States. Both nations acknowledged the need to address the fundamental causes of the conflict, even as Russia continues to face challenges on the ground in Ukraine.
