The United States government has firmly rejected accusations from Malaysia's opposition Islamist party, the Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS), regarding alleged attempts to influence the nation’s political leadership in 2014.
In a statement released via social media on Sunday, David H. Gamble Jnr, the Charge d’Affaires at the US embassy in Malaysia, asserted, "The United States has never sought to decide Malaysia’s political leadership. Any account to the contrary is false." This response comes after PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang made the claims during a recent event.
Gamble's remarks highlight the US's position on maintaining respect for Malaysia's sovereignty and political independence, emphasizing that any suggestion of interference is unfounded.
