Verstappen Reflects on Challenging Season and Future Goals in Candid Interview

Max Verstappen, the Red Bull racing star, has opened up about his experiences and challenges during the ongoing 2026 Formula 1 season in a recent interview. Despite securing five podium finishes, a race victory remains elusive for the four-time world champion.

The conversation, held just before the Italian Grand Prix at Monza, revealed Verstappen's frustration with the current performance of his car. "Overall we’re just lacking a bit of performance. The car is not where I want it to be feeling-wise," he expressed, indicating the need for significant changes ahead of next season.

Contract Extensions and Team Dynamics

Verstappen's recent two-year contract extension with Red Bull, which runs through the end of 2030, comes with performance clauses that could allow him to explore other options if his team's competitiveness does not improve. "I feel good here. So this, for me, is the right place to be," he stated, emphasizing his commitment to the team despite the challenges.

The driver acknowledged the transitional phase within the team, where new personnel have joined amid ongoing discussions about improving the car's performance. "There’s also things that we talk about within the team, like how can that happen, how can we fix it?" he said. This collaborative effort is crucial as Verstappen aims to rebuild and restore Red Bull to its former glory.

Verstappen also shared insights from his recent participation in the Nurburgring 24 Hours race, where he showcased his skills by moving from 10th to 1st before a mechanical failure halted their pursuit of victory. "It was super-cool to be able to do an endurance event with my team-mates," he reflected, expressing his enjoyment of the race despite the unfortunate outcome.

Looking forward, Verstappen has aspirations to participate in various endurance races, including potentially competing in the Hypercar World Endurance Championship. He noted, "I don’t want to rush it. I want to do it in the right environment, on my terms, and competitive." His love for competition and the sport remains strong, even as he grapples with the new F1 engine regulations that have stirred discontent among drivers.
