Walmart Unveils $1.3 Billion Fulfillment Center in Georgia to Enhance E-Commerce Delivery

Walmart is set to revolutionize its logistics with a $1.3 billion investment in a state-of-the-art fulfillment center in Carnesville, Georgia. This facility, spanning 1.5 million square feet, marks the first of its kind in the southeastern United States and is part of Walmart's strategy to bolster its same-day and next-day shipping capabilities.

Scheduled to break ground in late 2026, the automated center is anticipated to create approximately 1,000 jobs in the local community. Walmart's senior vice president of supply chain, Karisa Sprague, emphasized the importance of this investment, stating, “As customer expectations continue to evolve, investments like our new fulfillment center in Carnesville help us deliver the speed, convenience, and reliability customers count on.”

This facility will utilize advanced automation technologies to streamline operations, enabling Walmart to double both storage capacity and order processing speed compared to traditional centers. Currently, Walmart operates four similar high-tech warehouses across the U.S. and plans to open a fifth in Stockton, California, by early 2027.

Walmart’s e-commerce growth has been significantly fueled by its delivery services. In the most recent quarter, the company doubled its units delivered within 30 minutes and expanded ultra-fast delivery to 38 markets. Over half of Walmart's e-commerce fulfillment now occurs at automated facilities, with plans to retrofit all 42 regional distribution centers by 2030. Walmart CEO John Furner noted that the company's supply chain investments are expected to reach their peak in 2026 and 2027.

The new Carnesville center will integrate innovative technologies, including robotics and a unified control platform, which enhances coordination among various vendors’ systems. This streamlined approach allows for a more efficient fulfillment process, reducing the time from order receipt to shipping to just 30 minutes.
