Yemen's Forces Claim Key Territorial Gains Amid Ongoing Houthi Clashes

The situation in Yemen remains volatile as government forces announce the recapture of vital territory from Houthi rebels amid fierce clashes. This announcement comes as fighting intensifies in the southwest, particularly in the Jabal Habashi district, located west of Taiz city.

On Friday, Yemeni military officials confirmed the retrieval of the al-Khazan and al-Makahna hills, which hold strategic importance in the ongoing conflict. The clashes have continued for a second consecutive day, not only in western Taiz but also in the southern governorate of Hodeidah, as Houthi fighters launched a broad offensive along the coastal front lines.

Casualties have been significant on both sides. A Houthi source reported that over 100 fighters from both factions have been killed since the offensive commenced on Thursday. Among the dead are at least 24 government troops near the west coast and 15 others in Taiz, while medical reports from Houthi-controlled regions indicate at least 42 Houthi fatalities.

The violence escalated further with a ballistic missile attack that struck a restaurant in al-Makha, resulting in civilian casualties. According to state-run Saba TV, the escalating conflict has led to over 120 deaths across Yemen since the Houthi offensive began.
