Marib Under Fire: Houthi Attacks Target Civilians and Displaced Persons

The ongoing conflict in Yemen saw a significant escalation as Houthi forces launched multiple attacks on the government-controlled city of Marib. On Saturday, local authorities reported that four ballistic missiles and four drones struck residential areas, injuring several civilians and damaging property.

In a statement, the Marib provincial authority condemned the strikes, describing them as an “ongoing assault” that endangers the lives of civilians and those living in displaced persons’ camps. With over two million internally displaced individuals residing in Marib, the impact of such attacks is profound.

In addition to the missile strikes, further clashes were reported in the south, where Yemeni government forces claimed to have killed several Houthi fighters, including key commanders. This uptick in violence marks a troubling trend since early August, with recent attacks resulting in significant casualties among both military personnel and civilians.

United Nations officials have raised alarms over the potential for Yemen to slip back into full-scale war, highlighting the precarious situation that has emerged following more than four years of relative calm.
