Zverev Secures Spot in Third Consecutive Grand Slam Final at US Open

Alexander Zverev has advanced to his third consecutive Grand Slam final after a decisive victory over Karen Khachanov at the US Open. The top seed showcased his skills with a scoreline of 6-3, 7-6 (9-7), 7-6 (8-6), continuing his pursuit of a second major title this year.

Zverev, who claimed his first Grand Slam title at the French Open in June, is now the favorite in New York. His journey to this final has been impressive, particularly as he reached the Wimbledon final just a month ago, where he fell to world number one Jannik Sinner. The 29-year-old is now set to face either eighth seed Ben Shelton or 11th seed Frances Tiafoe in the championship match on Sunday.

“I think it [Sunday] will be incredibly special,” Zverev said, acknowledging the crowd favorites in the upcoming clash. “Tonight will be an epic semi-final and I am looking forward to watching it. Hopefully, I can not make their American dream come true.” Zverev’s consistency has been key to his success this year, particularly with injuries sidelining both Sinner and defending champion Carlos Alcaraz. After a shaky start to the tournament, where he was pushed to five sets in his first two matches, Zverev has since found his rhythm, not dropping a single set in the subsequent rounds.

During the match against Khachanov, Zverev faced some pressure but effectively saved two set points in the third set, demonstrating his resilience. He reflected on his earlier struggles, stating, “After the second round, at about 3am I was sitting with my team in the locker room and we were laughing at how bad I was playing. That sense of humour helped me.” With this victory, Zverev not only celebrates his sixth major final but also aims to redeem himself after a narrow defeat to Dominic Thiem in the 2020 US Open final.
