A Cinematic Journey Through Silence: 'Eklipse' Set to Debut at Venice Film Festival

Austrian director Manuel Wetscher is making his feature film debut with 'Eklipse,' a poignant exploration of family secrets and societal stigma, premiering at the Venice Film Festival on September 5.

The film, inspired by Wetscher's own experiences surrounding his father's death from AIDS in the 1990s, follows teenagers Tomy and Chris during a summer spent at an alpine dairy farm. While they help Tomy’s uncle, an underlying tension builds as Tomy's mother keeps the truth about his father's illness hidden.

The film stars Moritz Hohlrieder as Tomy and Finley Brown as Chris, highlighting the fears and taboos that shroud their friendship. As Chris learns the truth about Tomy's father's health, he grapples with fear, leading to Tomy's confrontation with rejection and silence from his family.

'Eklipse' promises to reveal the darker aspects of life while also shedding light on what is often kept in the shadows, with a narrative crafted in collaboration with Bernhard Jarosch.
