A12 Apartment in Rome Reimagined with Blue Portals and Brick Vaults

In the heart of Rome, the A12 Apartment has undergone a stunning transformation by the architectural firm DKA – Diele Kerciku Architetture. Spanning 100 square meters, this renovation emphasizes the apartment's original features while introducing a more open and inviting layout.

The existing brick vaults and generous ceiling heights served as a foundation for the redesign. DKA opted for a minimalist approach, removing parts of the load-bearing walls to enhance the spatial flow. This method retained the character of the historic structure while creating a seamless connection between the kitchen, living room, and other communal spaces.

One of the standout features of the renovation is the striking pale-blue bespoke joinery that runs along the entrance, serving as a functional element that integrates wardrobes and storage. Deeper blue portals delineate room transitions, providing an architectural frame that highlights the views within the home.

In addition to the living area, the children's bedroom features a suspended net, adding an element of playfulness and flexibility. The use of color extends throughout the apartment, with shades of blue and red strategically employed to define spaces and connect bespoke furniture to the architecture.

Lighting designed by Flos and Artemide enhances the dialogue between old and new materials, creating a unique atmosphere. DKA's careful attention to detail ensures that the A12 Apartment not only respects its historical roots but also meets modern living needs, allowing its original brick vaults and contemporary elements to coexist harmoniously.
