Apple Seeks Fees on External Purchases in Epic Games Dispute

In a recent legal maneuver, Apple is advocating for a fee structure that would allow it to charge for digital purchases made outside its App Store. This proposal comes in response to its ongoing legal battle with Epic Games, which has already voiced strong objections.

Currently, a ruling from Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers prohibits Apple from taking commissions on external transactions. However, a panel from the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals indicated that Apple could impose charges based on "necessary costs." In its latest filing, Apple argues that while the fees could be minimal, they are essential for covering its platform's operational expenses.

Specifically, Apple suggested a 15% fee for standard apps and a reduced 5% for those part of its Small Business Program. Epic, however, contends that these proposed fees exceed what is acceptable under the court's guidelines, preparing to challenge them within the next 60 days.
