Bangladesh Open to Makkah Pact Invitation, Says Foreign Minister

Bangladesh's Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman announced in parliament that the nation would consider joining the Makkah Pact if invited by its founding members. He emphasized that any decision would be carefully evaluated based on potential benefits to the country.

Rahman further described the pact as a self-defense mechanism for the Muslim community, asserting that it is an internal matter for Muslim nations. He stated, “If they invite Bangladesh to join, then we will definitely consider it positively.”

In related remarks, opposition leader Shafiqur Rahman stressed that the decision to join the pact rests solely with Bangladesh, reassuring that the country’s interests should be prioritized. Earlier, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir indicated Dhaka's interest in the agreement, viewing it as a positive step towards regional security.

The Makkah Pact, signed on August 7 by Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan, establishes a joint defense framework where an attack on one member is regarded as an attack on all, aiming to enhance collective security and stability in the region.
