Cameroon Claims First Women's Africa Cup of Nations Title with Victory Over Malawi

In a historic showdown on Sunday, Cameroon emerged victorious against Malawi, clinching their first Women's Africa Cup of Nations title in Rabat. The Indomitable Lionesses, who had faced disappointment in their previous three finals against Nigeria, dominated the match, securing a 3-0 win.

Marie Ngah was the standout performer, scoring twice, while Naomi Eto added another goal. After failing to qualify for the last tournament, Cameroon capitalized on an expanded roster, which allowed them to compete despite an earlier setback against Algeria.

Malawi, making their tournament debut and ranked 153rd globally, had a remarkable run, defeating the defending champions Nigeria and other strong teams to reach the final. However, their journey ended in disappointment as they struggled to convert opportunities, despite a strong start and the impressive play of the Chawinga sisters, who had tallied nine goals throughout the tournament.

Cameroon took control of the match, with Ngah scoring the opening goal in the 20th minute. Eto followed up with a quick second goal, and Ngah sealed the victory just before halftime. The second half saw Malawi push back but ultimately fail to find the net. With this win, Cameroon not only celebrated their first title but also secured a place in the 2027 Women's World Cup alongside Malawi, Algeria, and Morocco, who also made it to the semifinals.
