Chic Essentials: Packing for a Stylish Weekend in Lake Como

Packing for a weekend in Lake Como, Italy, can be a daunting task, especially when every local seems to exude effortless style. As I prepared for my trip, the challenge loomed: how to blend practicality with the sophisticated vibe of this iconic destination?

Upon arrival on the first Friday of August, I was greeted not by sunny skies but a thunderstorm that left many tourists, including myself, donning plastic ponchos. Thankfully, after a relaxing spa session, the sun emerged, allowing me to embrace my curated wardrobe. I had meticulously planned outfits for various activities, ensuring I utilized pieces from my existing collection rather than splurging on new items.

For a day spent lounging by the hotel’s floating pool, my Muun basket bag was packed with essentials like sunscreen, headphones, and a book. A ferry ride to Bellagio called for a blend of comfort and style, where I paired my trusty Xero hiking sandals with a breezy H&M Studio dress. To complete the look for our boat excursion, I opted for a chic pillbox straw hat, swapping my initial headscarf dream for this more whimsical accessory.

While I managed to fit everything in my carry-on, my packing list included versatile items suitable for both daytime adventures and evening elegance. For the evenings, choosing a nightie dress like the Sleeper Atlanta style proved wise, as the weather can turn cool after sunset. This dress, with its stylish long sleeves, can be adjusted to suit the occasion—off the shoulder for casual outings or pulled up for a more polished look.

Exploring the charming streets of Lake Como, I found that layering is key, especially when the weather fluctuates. My choice of Chloe sunglasses and hiking sandals made navigating the cobbled paths a breeze, all while I sought out the best focaccia in town. The right cover-up is essential for transitioning from poolside to lunch, and I relied on sheer dresses from Rat & Boa that are both stylish and practical.

Dinner in Lake Como is an opportunity to embrace old-world glamour. A maxi linen dress from Agua by Agua Bendita Sula, adorned with floral appliqué, effortlessly elevates the look for a terrace dining experience, perfectly complemented by raffia accessories and a pop of bright lipstick. It’s a versatile piece that can be dressed down during the day and up for evening outings.

Our stay at the recently opened Lake Como Edition offered stunning views and proximity to local attractions, including the esteemed Grand Hotel Tremezzo, known for its beautiful terrace. As we prepared to depart from Milan Malpensa, I found myself in one of the most stylish airports I had ever seen. With ample shopping opportunities, it was the perfect end to my chic Italian getaway.
