The Cincinnati Masters showcased a gripping match as world number one Aryna Sabalenka fought valiantly to overcome Talia Gibson. The Belarusian star required six match points to secure her place in the third round, winning 6-2, 7-6 (7/2) amidst challenging windy conditions on Grandstand Court.

In an intense second set, Gibson, hailing from Australia, saved five match points, putting significant pressure on Sabalenka's service games. Despite the pressure, Sabalenka maintained her composure, finally clinching the match with a decisive tiebreaker victory. "I’m super tired. This is crazy weather," Sabalenka remarked after the match, praising Gibson's aggressive play.

Joining Sabalenka in the next round are notable players including Australian Open champion Elena Rybakina and French Open winner Mirra Andreeva. Rybakina, ranked second in the world, advanced with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Taylor Townsend, while Andreeva delivered a dominant performance, dismantling Oleksandra Oliynykova 6-1, 6-0.

American tennis talents Coco Gauff and Ben Shelton had contrasting fortunes in the evening session. Gauff, seeded fourth, battled through to secure a 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 victory against Liudmila Samsonova, while Shelton was upset by Portugal's Jaime Faria, losing 6-4, 6-4 despite an early lead.

In the men's draw, Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime marked his return from injury with a solid 6-3, 7-5 win over 2022 Cincinnati finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas. Auger-Aliassime acknowledged the challenges posed by the wind but expressed satisfaction with his performance.
