US Smartphone Sales Decline Amid Rising Prices

Counterpoint Research's recent analysis reveals a significant downturn in US smartphone sales during Q2, with an overall decline of 5% compared to last year. The ongoing memory chip crisis and escalating gas prices have squeezed consumer budgets, pushing average selling prices higher.
Major brands like Apple, Samsung, Motorola, and Google experienced a 4% drop in sales, while lesser-known manufacturers saw declines as steep as 45%. Particularly hard hit were smartphones priced under $100, which plummeted by 64% as smaller companies struggled with rising component costs.
Despite these challenges, Samsung and Motorola increased their presence in the prepaid market, buoyed by popular models like the Galaxy A-series and Moto G lineup.
