Netflix Shuts Down Two Game Studios Amid Strategic Shift

By Editor • August 13, 2026 • 1 min read

In a significant restructuring, Netflix is set to close Night School Studio and Moonloot Games, redirecting its focus towards TV-based party games. This move marks a departure from its previous mobile-centric strategy.

Night School Studio, known for the acclaimed Oxenfree series, was acquired by Netflix in 2021. Recently, it released a horror game, Unhinged, and is gearing up for a mobile title linked to Black Mirror in 2025. Meanwhile, Helsinki's Moonloot Games, established in 2022, will also cease operations.

Netflix’s shift began late last year, as it emphasized party games while streamlining its offerings. According to spokesperson Chrissy Kelleher, this realignment necessitates organizational changes, impacting several roles within the gaming division, including accessibility lead Tara Voelker.
