Dingell Takes Aim at Trump and Harp Over Lake Ontario Renaming Threat

In a sharp retort, Michigan Democratic Representative Debbie Dingell has called out former President Donald Trump and his aide Natalie Harp regarding Trump's controversial suggestion to rename Lake Ontario to "Lake America." Dingell quipped, "Let’s just call it Lake Natalie so we know you’ll start protecting our Great Lakes," referring to Harp’s unwavering loyalty to Trump.

This exchange comes in the wake of escalating tensions between the U.S. and Canada, with Trump recently announcing a 50% tariff on Canadian goods following a breakdown in trade negotiations.

Trump made his remarks on Truth Social, stating, "The United States is giving serious consideration to changing the name of Lake Ontario to Lake America in that we don’t expect to doing much business with Ontario any longer." Canadian Minister of Industry Mélanie Joly quickly responded, affirming, "We’ll always call it Lake Ontario. Period. We’re proud of our Great Lakes." She emphasized Canada’s resolve to retaliate against U.S. tariffs, which include significant duties on American steel and aluminum.

As this trade battle unfolds, Trump faces scrutiny at home as well. Progressive candidate Abdul El-Sayed recently criticized him for his connection to Harp, suggesting she should take care of the president's well-being. Harp, who has been described as Trump's social media concierge, has garnered attention for her close ties to him and her enthusiastic presence during his events.
