Doshi Levien Unveils 'Dori' Collection: A Modern Twist on Indian Textiles for Hay

By Editor • August 20, 2026 • 1 min read

The latest textile accessories collection by Doshi Levien for Hay, named ‘Dori,’ artfully marries boldness with subtlety, showcasing the unique flair of its creators, Nipa Doshi and Jonathan Levien. Established in London in 2000, the duo is celebrated for their innovative designs that blend cultural depth with technical finesse.

Inspired by Indian textile traditions, the ‘Dori’ range features a quilted bedspread, cushions, and organic cotton covers, all highlighting intricate contrast stitching in a grid formation. The collection's name, derived from the Hindi word for 'thread', reflects its essence, and these pieces complement Doshi Levien’s earlier ‘Quilton’ sofa, as well as their ‘Rabari’ rug series.

Doshi, who hails from Mumbai, sees this collection as a bridge bringing Indian textile culture into the Hay brand. The genesis of ‘Dori’ traces back to a textile sample that caught Mette Hay’s eye during a studio visit, showcasing a two-tone check pattern crafted using traditional kantha stitching—a hand-embroidered technique from various Indian regions.

Produced in her aunt's workshop in Ahmedabad, known for its rich textile history and collaboration with renowned brands, the collection utilizes industrial machine embroidery to enhance accessibility without sacrificing craftsmanship. 'It’s not only decorative,' Doshi explains, 'but also acts as a subtle guide, showing how to fold, place, and compose the bed.'

With a focus on color, the ‘Dori’ collection offers three reversible colorways—midnight blue, maroon, and green—each blending vibrant embroidery threads for a striking visual. This modern approach to design allows for versatility, enabling users to easily transform the look of their space.

Ultimately, the ‘Dori’ collection encapsulates the joy of creating a beautiful bed, inviting users to relish the simple yet profound act of making their surroundings more inviting.
