Christie's Beverly Hills is set to unveil an eclectic collection of 50 captivating chairs in a unique selling exhibition, running from September 25 to 30. This event, a collaboration with marketplace Basic.Space, promises to redefine how we view and appreciate this fundamental piece of furniture.

A Diverse Collection

The exhibition features a remarkable array of chairs crafted from unconventional materials such as antlers, steel, and even balloons. Each piece tells its own story, showcasing designs that range from the iconic Eames LCW in rare cowhide to the green Gufram Pratone, which mimics the look of grass. Jesse Lee, founder and CEO of Basic.Space, emphasizes that these chairs are not bound by any specific style or period, offering a fresh perspective on design.

Notable Contributions from Renowned Designers

Among the standout pieces is the Stag Stool by fashion designer Rick Owens, made from a genuine moose antler, and a hammered-brass chair by Kelly Wearstler. The exhibition also includes innovative works like the Teamwork Chair by Playlab Inc., which requires two people to sit on it to achieve balance, and the Box Chair by Illya Goldman Gubin, crafted from a cardboard box.

With a selection that includes both collectible and commercial designs, the event aims to attract a new generation of design enthusiasts eager to explore both historical and contemporary creations.
