The Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF) recently announced its award winners, celebrating excellence in feature and short filmmaking. The coveted Sean Connery Prize for Feature Filmmaking Excellence went to Kieron J. Walsh's 'Skintown,' a vivid portrayal of Northern Irish youth during the 1994 ceasefire. This film, described as both humorous and poignant, showcases the friendship of Vinny and Jonty as they navigate life’s challenges, all set to a nostalgic '90s soundtrack. The award comes with a £50,000 grant to support future projects.

In the short filmmaking category, the Thelma Schoonmaker Prize was awarded to 'Grief Room,' directed by Sinda Agha. This touching narrative centers on estranged sisters who reunite at their mother’s deathbed, employing innovative technology to uncover her final messages. Both films have received acclaim for their storytelling and emotional depth, with EIFF CEO Paul Ridd praising the high standard of this year’s entries.
