Fire Rages for Over a Week Near Yalta Amid Controversy

In occupied Crimea, a wildfire has been burning for more than a week in the mountains close to Yalta. Initially reported on August 19 at just over three hectares, the blaze rapidly expanded to 50 hectares due to strong winds.

Authorities declared a regional emergency, mobilizing over 600 personnel to combat the flames. Yanina Pavlenko, Yalta’s administration head, dismissed claims of insufficient resources as fake news. Despite a local connection to recent Ukrainian drone strikes, officials have not officially confirmed the fire's cause.
