Hollywood Heavyweights Accuse Mark Ruffalo of Antisemitism Amid Paramount Controversy

By Editor • August 26, 2026 • 1 min read

A coalition of prominent Hollywood figures, including producers Haim Saban, Lawrence Bender, and Teddy Schwarzman, has publicly denounced actor Mark Ruffalo for what they describe as antisemitic rhetoric following his criticism of Paramount's leadership. The statement was issued by 'The Brigade,' a group of nearly 1,000 individuals allied with the Jewish community working across diverse entertainment sectors.

The controversy ignited after Ruffalo's Instagram post on August 21, which highlighted Oracle's connections to the Israeli military, particularly a clip of former CEO Safra Catz. The Brigade condemned Ruffalo's comments, arguing that they perpetuated harmful antisemitic stereotypes by targeting Jewish executives.

“Singling out Jewish executives and framing them using age-old antisemitic conspiracy theories is unacceptable,” the Brigade asserted. They emphasized that it is wrong to mix discussions of business with themes of antisemitism or anti-Zionism, especially when the individuals involved are Jewish.

Ruffalo has been vocal in his opposition to the merger between Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery, as well as a staunch advocate for Palestinian rights. His post specifically called out Oracle founder Larry Ellison, who is closely associated with the Paramount-WBD merger.

The Brigade's statement included a strong warning about the broader implications of such rhetoric, noting it continues a dangerous pattern of targeting Jewish people and the state of Israel. They expressed concern that such narratives can lead to real-world violence against the Jewish community.

In contrast, some voices in Hollywood, like Emmy-winning actress Hannah Einbinder, have defended Ruffalo, labeling the accusations of antisemitism as “ludicrous” and calling for more industry members to support his stance. Following the backlash, a spokesperson for Paramount sought to downplay the heated exchange, urging a more tempered discussion around the merger.
