In an exciting collaboration, IKEA and XBOX have launched a new furniture collection tailored for gamers, showcased at Gamescom in Cologne, Germany. The YXSTABY collection, consisting of nine distinct pieces, aims to blend functionality with the demands of modern gaming spaces.
The unveiling took place on August 26, 2026, amidst the vibrant atmosphere of the world's largest video game event. The collection features several key items, including a lounge chair specifically designed for gaming with convenient side pockets, a versatile gaming stool, and various storage solutions. These pieces are particularly targeted at gamers with limited space, echoing IKEA's recent trend towards compact and portable furniture.
Drawing inspiration from the XBOX controller, the designs incorporate playful yet practical elements. For instance, the thumbstick stool is engineered to tilt with the user's movements, providing both comfort and a nod to gaming culture. This collaboration saw IKEA designers utilizing original 3D design files from XBOX to create an authentic gaming experience.
Additionally, the collection introduces IKEA's first-ever TV stand on wheels, maximizing versatility, alongside items such as toolboxes and side tables designed for optimal organization of gaming accessories. David Wahl, an IKEA designer, elaborated on the creative process, stating, "It starts with a great idea, prototypes, and nailing the form, function, and quality. Then we need to make sure we can adjust it for mass production."
The YXSTABY collection is crafted to appeal to a broad audience, with Wahl noting that the designs can be appreciated even by those who are not hardcore gamers. "It should be for the many, and if you don't see the gaming details, that is fine," he remarked.
Hidden features, or 'Easter eggs,' are integrated throughout the collection, including references to XBOX game elements and symbols. Lucas Bazle, another designer involved, explained the clever blending of XBOX's branding with IKEA's aesthetic, ensuring that the furniture maintains a sophisticated appeal for any home.
As anticipation builds, the YXSTABY collection is set to hit the UK market on October 1, 2026, with availability both in-store and online at ikea.com. Carl Ledbetter from XBOX expressed hopes that consumers will appreciate the thoughtful design elements aimed at enhancing the gaming experience.
