LIV Golf Shortens Season Amid Major Changes Ahead

By Editor • August 17, 2026 • 1 min read

The LIV Golf league is set to conclude its season earlier than anticipated, with the final event scheduled for this week in Indianapolis instead of the previously planned championship in Michigan.

This year’s schedule has seen just 12 events, the fewest since LIV’s inception in 2022, following the postponement of the New Orleans tournament. Jon Rahm has already secured the individual title for the third consecutive year, while the Indianapolis event will determine the second and third place finishers, as well as the top team.

In a significant shift, LIV Golf confirmed on Monday that it has reached an agreement with a new lead investor to sustain a revamped league structure for 2027, after the Saudi Public Investment Fund withdrew its financial backing earlier this year. LIV CEO Scott O’Neil emphasized the need to focus resources on transitioning to a player-owned model aimed at sustainability and improved fan engagement.

In a move indicative of ongoing cost adjustments, the league also announced that live performances by Thomas Rhett and Disco Lines would be canceled. Ticket holders for the Indianapolis event will receive refunds.

The final contest will feature a purse of $20 million, with the winner taking home $4 million. As players like Joaquin Niemann and Bryson DeChambeau vie for bonuses, questions linger regarding the future of high-stakes payouts and whether prominent players will remain with the league amid these changes.
