North Korea Slams South Korea as 'U.S. Puppet' Amid Military Drill Cuts

By Editor • August 21, 2026 • 1 min read

North Korea's Kim Yo Jong has sharply criticized South Korea, labeling it a 'puppet' of the United States following President Trump’s abrupt decision to scale back joint military exercises. In a statement released by state media, Kim remarked that Trump’s order has left Seoul in a difficult position regarding its favored 'war games.'

She further emphasized that South Korea could not voice any protests against the withdrawal of U.S. troops, describing the situation as the 'inevitable fate of the puppet army.' This rebuke follows North Korea's rejection of Trump's attempts to rekindle dialogue and skepticism towards his claims of ongoing communication with her brother, Kim Jong Un.

The recent joint drills, initially set to last until August 27, were unexpectedly shortened after Trump cited his positive relationship with Kim as a reason. Although South Korea welcomed the decision as a step towards peace, it appeared to catch them off guard, raising concerns about U.S. commitment to their security.
