Outbreak Linked to Alfalfa Sprouts Affects 55 Across Multiple States

By Editor • August 23, 2026 • 1 min read

A recent multistate outbreak involving E. coli and Salmonella has prompted health officials to issue a recall of alfalfa sprouts distributed by Everything Sprouts, LLC. As of August 22, 2026, 55 individuals have reported illnesses, with four requiring hospitalization.

The affected sprouts, sold under the Calco and Everything Sprouts brands, have been traced back to various grocery stores and restaurants, with the outbreak primarily affecting Minnesota and Wisconsin. However, cases have also emerged in states including Florida, Indiana, and North Dakota.

The outbreak spans illnesses reported between May 31 and August 8, revealing multiple strains of E. coli and one strain of Salmonella across 15 states. Symptoms typically manifest within days of consuming contaminated food, with E. coli infections potentially leading to severe conditions like kidney failure.

Consumers are urged to discard any recalled products and sanitize surfaces that may have come into contact with them. The FDA continues to monitor the situation and will provide updates as necessary.
